1st week of class - busy all ready

haven't had a chance to post all week, so this might get lengthy.

classes started monday, with me getting a bit of a shock at how unprepared i am for one of them - oceanography. i spent 2 hours staring into a microscope looking at various plankton, surrounded by people who knew exactly what they were looking at... a little scary. luckily mike is in that class and essentially worked as an oceanographer for a summer so will waltz through that class like its nothing... and help me :) and with a little extra work i think i'll handle it. we have our mini field trip out on the collection boat next weekend so thats cool.

i had my coral reefs class the next day, and i feel a lot more comfortable in that class. the prof is the leading coral reefs researcher in the souther hemesphere, and we get to go on a 2.5 day field trip with the class to observe and collect data... entailing snorkeling/scuba and living on a boat for the trip. AWESOME. my biogiography class started wednesday and that one is cool as well, funny british prof talking about james bond movies.

outside of class, interesting happenings :) julie joined the reserves and has her uniform she has to wear on tuesdays now. we've been getting through the 3rd season of grey's anatomy fairly quickly and thats fun, also been watching some dr who :) also my camera icked the most inopportune moment to die on me. i'm going to see if i can get it fixed in town, i don't want to have to buy another one here but i do need my pictures. we've been makin plans all week about where we want to go. next weekend we're going out to magnetic island in a group to snorkle and kyak - i would be diving but i won't be completely certified untill the 25th (and its an expensive certification... bah) but snorkeling is still awesome. i just need to pick up some finns and a stinger suit - no more jelly stings for me thanks. and tonight we're having a cooking party, invading mike and robin's kitchen and i'm making key lime pie :) and we'll be treated to some lovely australian dishes. after i think we'll head to the strand for a night walk allong the beach and perhaps a dip in the rock pool after dark.

and then last night there was a hall party, where they brought us pizza, beer and punch (served in a garbage bin that i hope they at least hosed down first haah). there were no non-alcoholic beverages available. we played the most massive game of kings cup and everyone got pretty stupid pretty quickly. luckily i didn't have class today unitl noon or i might have been in trouble.

**later that night** allright so i took a longer break from writing this than i thought, i just got back from walking kate home with julie. we did indeed have our cooking party, robin made the biggest pie i've ever seen in my life - she used a turkey platter. so think about 5x the recepie... yea it was delicious but so rich we were calling people in who were walking by to come help us eat it, and we just barely made a dent. my key lime pies were a hit, and there is still left over for tomorrow night :) after eating we decided to play poker. i was first out but then joined kate - the joke now being that we shar a brain and are there fore half-brains... we argue about weather she has half of my brain or i have half of her brain (obviously the brain is mine and she only controls that half because i let her, right?) anyway we technically came in second but we just didn't want to keep playing with just 2 in.

tomorrow is beach and then bowling, o i'm excited :)
