the circulating curse!

so i know its about 2:30am and i'm crazy but whatever.

since the beginning of the semester, since i had found my group of regulars, there has been a circulating curse. something bad has happened to every one of us and i think it may be starting again... it started when dan had a kidney stone and julie had food poisoning from dining hall ham, then robyn got the nastiest of colds, i had my ear problem on the livaboard, and kate just got over her traveling cold. then last night we went to hungry jacks (=burger king) and mike and julie got the same meal - a double baccon cheese something. julie is getting over a mild cold, but soon after we returned and started drinking (she only had water) she vomited. she was alright most of the night, just little bits of nausea. mike was drinking heavily as per usual, i think he went through 1/4 a bottle of jamison, a tallie or 2 (beer in a BIG bottle), at least 3 glasses of wine and a bit of his lychee port (delicious by the way) by 2:30ish when we were winding down. he came up to my room to chill and watch some dr who and then the baccon hit him. violently. so that was mike's bout with the curse but the problem i'm seeing is that julie has now had 2 cases of food poisoning. is the curse circling? we shall find out. incidentally we're never going to hungry jacks again. they are both fine now but man was i glad i had the chicken.

tonight was awesome because i made tacos for everyone and also black cake of deliciousness :D apparently i'm allowed to cook whenever i want now. and i have leftover ingreedients to make more cake and the leftover beef will make more tacos tomorrow! i do love avoiding dorm food.

ah well off to bed i suppose, bty the dresden files is an awesome show. so is black books. and kevin smith films are also amazing. w00t!

I'M ALIIIIVE!

promise i'm still here :P just been crazy busy for the past month and got all caught up in having the most awesome of people to hang out with lol.

so since i've been gone...... lots of stuff. had a relaxing weekend, followed by a slightly more interesting weekend. both envolved a bit of indulging, mostly wine and chocolate and black books :) we also made a trip up to crystal creek (after a minor detour because i'm a retard with directions... oops lol) anyhoo that was a fun time, here's a few tell-tale pictures. we love beating eachother up :P
The next day mike and i had a field trip (this was easter weekend bty) to orpheous island - it was beautiful! Mangroves and sunsets and snorkeling for 2 days with my class, whatever was i to do!? IDing corals is fun :)
so the week following easter wasn't too stressful, and we all felt like we were already on break lol. mike left for perth on thursday so our group was a little smaller, and we got a little more obsessed with tripod, an australian comedy music group that is hillarious - i shall spread them to the states. dan julie kate and i were going to go to magnetic island on saturday but we got rained out so we made it an unplanned day of awesome. we watched flushed away and over the hedge, and then went to the cinema to see meet the robinson's (which was awesome lol) and then had a picnic on top of castle hill. so much fun :)the next day, kate and julie left for billo and it was just dan and i left at god 'ol uni hall. we decided to make a trip to billabong sanctuary with awesome results. OMG i love the animals in this country! the first one is a wombat named nugget - these things are heavy and so cute lol. the koala i'm holding is named abby, she's about a year old. the big croc is nipper - not sure of the names of the smaller ones. and the black headed python is duke :) and look at all the roos!
that night dan and i just chilled watching the producers and enjoying our rum :P and in the morning i ran off on my field trip for my linking indiginousness class - a 3 hour bus ride north to tully. We spent the first day just chillin at the cabin playing cards and such. the next day we met uncle ernie, this old aboriginal guy who talked to us for most of the day about aboriginal things... society and kids in school and history and such. it was interesting but i wish we'd done more that day. we went down to the river at like 4pm and a few of us decided to go swimming. what ernie didn't tell us till the next day was that that part of the river had crocs in it... sure he was lookin out for us while we swam but craziness man! anyhoo the next day was awesome because we went on a hike through the rainforest... a rainforest! everything could kill us haha - even the stinging trees, or if tey weren't stinging they were snagging and cutting. and there were snakes and other cool things. we stopped along echo creek a few times, mostly just to sit and enjoy the jungle and hear ernie's stories, but once to swim (no crocs this time). we left the next morning, the whole trip was just cool. now if only i didn't have to write a paper for it...

so i got back to the school at like 4:15 on thursday and dan and jenna and i caught the 5:15 bus into town so we would be at the greyhound station in time... in that time i re-packed and showered rather effectively :P and only forgot one thing - shampoo (yay scabbing off others!) we got up to cairns at like 1am, and mike took us back to the little hostle for our 5 hours of sleep. we were at the prodive shop around the corner at about 6am friday, and deffinately on the boat within like half an hour. the boat is beautiful - if ever you dive, prodive is awesome. we cruised for about 4 hours to get to the outter reef and were in the water as soon as possible :) the first dive was interesting, because we had planned to go down in our group of 5 (me mike dan jenna and jules) but dan was skiddish and surfaced with me soon after we descended and we lost the rest of the group. it was ok because we just stayed shallow and whatever but it was a slightly stressful dive and somewhere in the middle i messed up my right ear with a squeaky pop. it was fine until i was back on the boat for like 20 min and then it really started to hurt. i sat out the second dive and was up on top deck with the skipper fozzie (we also had a gonzo on the boat, we were sailing with the muppets!) and my ear kept getting worse until he came to ask me something and i didn't realize i was crying until i tried to talk to him. he gave me codine (yay drugs) and the pain went away after a few min. my ear was still popping a bit odd but since the pain was gone i decided to try the 3rd dive for the day, which was part of our advanced course - it was supposed to be my navigation dive. but i got in the water and tried to descend and my ear really hurt again and wouldn't pop at all. i went into a full panic, though my buddy and instructor didn't realize it, and they left while i bolted back to the ladder and clung to it for about 3 min. fozzie was great though, he helped me out and i just sat out for that dive and the night dive, chillin on the top deck with him. it was really cool to be able to see the sharks people were jumping on top of :P and there's nowhere like the middle of the ocean to star gaze. since i had missed 2 of the advanced course dives, the instructor wazza said i couldn't finnish with the class :( so that was kind of a bummer. but i'll get it when we plan the yongola dive trip in a few weeks. the next day my ear was fine and i stuck with mike and jules. dan and jenna joined us after the first dive and we not only saw like 4 sea turtles, we petted them! they're so calm and cute munchin on the alge :) turtles make me happy. few other awesome pics i'll steal from mike and dan - fancy with their underwater cameras :P too cool. oh and the sad pictures of me are after wazza attacked me with his stamp haha. he was ruthless! that evening i went on the night dive with just mike and it was amazing. totaly darkness underwater with a torch... sweet haha. we lost the big group of lights quickly and i didn't see many sharks unfortunately, but we did see the bigest turtle i've ever even heard of - i didn't knwo they could get that big! the dive went reletively smoothly (except mike smashing his head on the coral, good thing he has a thick skull... he was fine lol) until the end when my other ear acted up. i paniced again minorly but if there's anyone i'd feel good about diving with its mike, and he got me to the surface and i was fine :P so ya it was all in all a good experience :D.anyway the 3rd day out we had 3 dives before lunch because we're awesome like that. the dawn dive was the best i think. i cut the 3rd one short because of a stomach cramp but all in all it was a great trip. i had a blast. we got back to cairns with about 2 hours to burn before we caught our bus, so we sat in a cool restaurante and had good food (incedentally the food for the entire break, tully and the boat, was beautiful. i'm having trouble readjusting to crap dorm food haha) and unfortunately we missed the boat party with the rest of the divers but we had class monday. oh well it was still too cool for words.

and now the planning for the rest of our weekends has begun! we're relaxing this weekend, with a jay and silent bob marathon (and associated drinking games) planned. next weekend is labor day (i get 2 this year!) and we're road tripping down to gladston, which will be sweet. other trips include a return to cairns because i need to do some touristy shopping and see the rest of that cute little town, and during the study week mike and i are trying to get a group to do melbourn and sydney. after exams is another road trip to brisbane :) omg the semester is going WAY too fast. i need more time!

all right the pictures upload is being retarded so i'll post pics from tully and the livaboard in the next entry :P if you made it to the end in one shot, congrats. this took me 2 days to write.
